Acceptable Use Policy
Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out the rules governing how users may and may not use the Braintiq platform operated by OmnitechWorks (Pty) Ltd. It supplements the User Agreement and applies to all users — individual students, institutional administrators, and any other party with access to the platform.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure Braintiq remains a safe, effective, and lawful academic environment for all users.
Permitted Use
You may use Braintiq for the following purposes:
- Accessing AI-assisted tutoring, explanations, and academic guidance for your own learning
- Creating and reviewing flashcard decks using the spaced repetition engine
- Submitting academic text for analysis, summarisation, or critique to support your own study
- Using the Pomodoro and habit tracking tools to manage your personal study schedule
- Rendering mathematical and scientific notation using the KaTeX engine
- Using the platform offline through the PWA functionality during load-shedding or low-connectivity periods
- Managing academic projects and deadlines through the semester planning suite
- Interacting with the Natural Language Pipeline to receive contextually accurate academic support
Prohibited Conduct
Violation of this section may result in immediate account suspension or permanent termination, and may be referred to relevant authorities where applicable.
You may not use Braintiq to:
- Academic fraud: Submit AI-generated content as your own original work in assessments, examinations, or academic submissions where such use is not permitted by your institution
- Plagiarism: Use the platform to produce content intended to deceive an institution, examiner, or third party about the origin of the work
- Reverse engineering: Attempt to decompile, disassemble, extract source code from, or otherwise reverse engineer any part of the platform
- Unauthorised access: Access or attempt to access accounts, data, or system components that do not belong to you
- Data scraping: Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to extract, copy, or aggregate content from the platform
- Harmful content: Submit queries or content that is threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise unlawful
- Circumventing restrictions: Attempt to bypass rate limits, access controls, paywalls, or any other technical measure implemented by the platform
- Impersonation: Misrepresent your identity, institution, or credentials when using the platform
- Commercial exploitation: Resell, sub-licence, or commercialise access to the platform or its outputs without prior written consent from OmnitechWorks
- Interference: Take any action that disrupts, degrades, or impairs the performance of the platform or its infrastructure
Academic Integrity
4.1 Braintiq is an academic support tool. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with the academic integrity policies of your institution when using AI-generated content.
4.2 The platform is designed to accelerate understanding, not to replace the learning process. Using AI to do your thinking for you — rather than to deepen your own — undermines the value of education and is contrary to the spirit of this platform.
4.3 OmnitechWorks will cooperate fully with institutions investigating academic misconduct where Braintiq usage is relevant, to the extent permitted by law and the Privacy Policy.
User Content Standards
5.1 Content you submit to the platform — including queries, documents, and notes — must not:
- Contain or solicit third-party personal information without their consent
- Include confidential institutional or examination materials in a way that violates your institution's rules
- Contain malicious code, scripts, or payloads intended to exploit the platform
- Violate the intellectual property rights of any third party
5.2 You are solely responsible for the content you submit and any consequences arising from that content.
Institutional Users
6.1 Institutional administrators granted access under a licensing agreement are responsible for ensuring that all users within their institution are aware of and comply with this policy.
6.2 Institutions may not grant access to the platform to individuals outside the agreed licence scope without prior written authorisation from OmnitechWorks.
6.3 Institutional misuse — including systematic violation of this policy by users under an institution's licence — may result in suspension of the institutional account.
Enforcement and Consequences
7.1 OmnitechWorks reserves the right to investigate suspected violations of this policy and take appropriate action, including:
- Issuing a formal warning
- Temporarily suspending account access
- Permanently terminating the account
- Referring the matter to law enforcement or regulatory authorities where relevant
7.2 Enforcement decisions are made at the Company's discretion. Where termination is based on a policy violation, no refund of subscription fees will be issued.
Reporting Violations
If you become aware of a violation of this policy — including misuse of the platform by another user — please report it to us at hello@omnitechworks.com with a description of the conduct. We take all reports seriously and will investigate accordingly.
Governing Clause
This Acceptable Use Policy forms part of the agreement between you and OmnitechWorks (Pty) Ltd. It must be read alongside the User Agreement (Clause 4), the AI Disclaimer, and the Privacy Policy. In the event of conflict, the User Agreement takes precedence.
This policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
